Hi,

we are currently testing a website that allows you to install dictionaries directly from your phone's browser:

http://goo.gl/y3pX or the long version http://dictionarymid.sourceforge.net/ota.php?p=2

If you
- have a JavaME / J2ME capabale phone
- and a data plan

then you can try it by pointing your phone's browser to one of the above urls, then opening the link JAD.
Please report if this works or not, so we can repair or extend the system for the other dictionaries.

Thanks,
Achim

Hope that someone will make an effort to test with his device - we really need that kind of support !!

In meanwhile I tested with the Nokia S40 emulator (6th edition). Did not work there: after some seconds the attached screenshot showed up ("Your DictionaryForMIDs download will start shortly") but nothing happened. Same for Jad and Jar. Clicking on the "direct link" produced the strange message "Link not available" (same for the other links on the download page - that is strange !).

Besides the Nokia S40 emulator records the network traffic from/to the http server, so if you like then you can debug  ;)

We really need to find someone who does test with his mobile !

I made one more test with the S40 emulator: I tried to download an application from getjar.com - and also there that strange "Link not available" message showed up. I assume that is really only a problem with the emulator and a real device would behave differently.

So ... we wait until there is someone who does make an effort to test with his cell phone !

can you upload the logs somewhere or mail them to me? I'd like to debug :)

Still waiting for one or maybe two of the one billion JavaME phone users to show up here...!

Hi Gert,

there is now a second link (English-French (FreeDict) 222, it's using direct downloads.sourceforge.net, somehow skipping the HTML mirror selection). When you have time, could try that JAD file on the emulator, too?

Thanks,
Achim

Results from the S40 Emulator when clicking on the Jar file:
1. Wait some seconds
2. Same screen as before appears
3. Clicked on 'direct link' -> application installs fine ! see screenshot.

Strange !!

I did not manage to copy the network traffic ... maybe you'd like to install the emulator yourself ?

My last activity on that subject (gosh I have so many other things to do  ... :o ):

Tested on a Nokia C6-00 (real device, not emulator) with the Jad 222 link: installs fine :)
