Problems / Re: rotation
Last post by Gert - 20. August 2017, 11:32:15
Actually, I have a problem there also (Nexus 5X, Android 7.1.2)

  • To reproduce, I use the "Englisch Deutsch" Freedict dictionary (DfM_3.4.0_EngGer_FreeDict). I have "incremental search" activated.
  • I hold the device in portrait mode
  • I search for a word such as "help" -> everything fine
  • I rotate to landscape mode -> upper half of the display is for text input (shows "help"); lower half of display is covered by keyboard (= gboard); no translation is shown
  • I rotate back to landscape mode  -> ok, translations for "help" are shown again
  • But: incremental search does not work any more from now on
Is there a need for screenshots?

Best regards,
Gert

Problems / rotation

When I rotate my screen, DFM does not show any translations anymore.

This happens in DFM version 1.0.1, in a recent nightly of LineageOS.

The same error occurs for the translation of "English" to Dutch, which should be "Engels" but is translated as "Nederlands".

Probably this is a generic problem for all translations.

Using v 1.0.1 on LineageOS via F-Droid.

That's a great idea - what's your use case behind this?

Being able to look up a word in a certain language quickly.

Additionally, what's the downside of having all dictionaries active (which is already available in the app)?

By default, if the dictionary you want is at the bottom, you can either scroll past the other dictionaries' results, or select other dictionaries to fold them closed. Even if an Android app icon moved the desired dictionary to the top, the app is pointlessly searching for a result, making the app less responsive.

Hey Tom,

That's currently not a feature of the app, but I can see how that would help if you have some dictionaries that you want to use more often than others - or what's your specific use case behind this?

One way of implementing this feature is to modify the RecentList activity (which shows the recently loaded dictionaries) to allow for re-ordering of dictionaries, ie. via drag-and-drop.

Cheers,

Achim

Hey Tom,

That's a great idea - what's your use case behind this? Additionally, what's the downside of having all dictionaries active (which is already available in the app)?

I think the following needs to be done to get this into the app:
- Implement an intent, similar to the one to load a newly installed dictionary. I guess it would load that dictionary and unload all other active dictionaries - or what's your use case?
- Use the Android ShorcutManager to implement a dynamic shortcut to a dictionary (ie. the newly implemented intent). Those shortcuts can have different icons

Happy to help any volunteers to get started on this!

Cheers,

Achim

Could it be possible for Dictionaryformids to be able to put dictionaries in a certain order, in the side-bar?

Best,
Tom

Could there be a different android app icon on the home screen for different dictionaries, if this is possible?

Best,
Tom

Ah!

Merriam Webster? You mean to look inside the Merriam Webster .jar file? You can use any zip utility to open a .jar file.

Or do you want to look at the "Input CSV file" that is run through DfM-Creator (I do not have that file).

In case you do not find the problem, then you can email me the .jar file of your dictionary and I will look at it.

Gert
